The Camp

The 120 sites sit in a forested setting along the lakeshore, each equipped with picnic table and fire ring. Flush toilets and drinking water keep things civilized, while premium lakeside sites ($25/night) put you right on the water with views across to Bald Mountain. The campground sprawls enough that you're not crowded, but close enough to amenities that families and RV campers find it manageable. A dump station and additional water are within a mile for those hauling rigs.

On the Water

The adjacent boat launch puts you directly into Little Grass Valley Reservoir for fishing, water-skiing, or sailing. The swimming beach means you can cool off without walking far from your site. A wheelchair-accessible fishing ramp sits at the dam for those needing easier access to the water. Three total boat launches around the reservoir give you options if this one gets busy.

The Trails

The Lakeshore Trail makes a complete 13.5-mile loop around Little Grass Valley, open to hikers, horses, and mountain bikes. Additional trails branch out from the area, including access to the Pacific Crest Trail. Wildlife watching runs to ospreys and bald eagles over the water, with deer, bear, and fisher in the surrounding forest.

What's Around

La Porte sits four miles away with restaurants, groceries, and gas — close enough for supply runs without feeling suburban. History seekers can explore old mining sites, towns, and cemeteries within 10 miles. Evening campfire programs run at the adjacent amphitheater when staff are available.
