Jackson Flats puts you at 7,500 feet in pine and fir groves, with the Pacific Crest Trail a short connector hike away. This tent-only group facility sits next to Grassy Hollow Visitor Center, where Saturday nature programs run through summer. You're close enough to Los Angeles for a weekend escape, high enough for cool nights even when the valley swelters.

The Camp
Each site sits about 600 feet from the central parking area β close enough for reasonable gear hauls, far enough to feel separated from the road noise. You'll camp among grasses and scattered pines, with large picnic tables, fire circles, and bear-proof lockers standard at each spot. Water taps are available throughout the campground, which matters at this elevation where sources can be seasonal.
The tent-only rule keeps things quiet. You can drive to your site to unload gear, but vehicles return to the main parking area. Summer days hover in the low 80s; nights cool off considerably β pack layers.
The Trails
A few short loops wind around the campground itself, good for morning coffee walks or evening stretches. The real draw is the connector trail to the Pacific Crest Trail, putting you on the 2,650-mile Mexico-to-Canada route without a long approach. The Angeles National Forest claims 557 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, with mountain biking allowed on everything except the PCT.
Nearby
Grassy Hollow Visitor Center runs Saturday programs during summer months β check what's scheduled before you arrive. Wrightwood is a short drive away for resupply runs, with restaurants and a disc golf course at North Resort. The Angeles Crest Highway (State Route 2) makes for scenic driving through varying elevations and ecosystems, from chaparral to high desert to these upper pine forests.
