Perched at 7,300 feet along the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway, Grassy Hollow splits the difference between a proper mountain camp and easy access from LA. The meadow setting offers level tent sites alongside hillier spots tucked under oak and pine, with summer highs in the 70s and cool nights that'll have you reaching for a jacket.

The Camp
The campsites here range from open meadow spots to shaded, rolling terrain under oak and pine canopy. Each tent site handles up to eight campers with parking for one vehicle, though additional parking can be purchased on-site. No RVs or trailers β this is tent-only territory with fire rings, picnic tables, pit toilets, and water available.
The onsite visitor center stocks firewood and camping supplies, plus local history if you're inclined to learn about the area. At this elevation, expect high-70s days with genuinely cool nights, even in summer.
Wildlife Watching
The surrounding forest delivers on wildlife viewing. Bobcats, mountain lions, and black bears all call this area home, along with Nelson bighorn sheep. Birders can spot endangered California condors, plus migratory species like the Least Bell's vireo and Southwestern Willow flycatcher. The endangered Arroyo toad and mountain yellow-legged frog inhabit the area as well.
Nearby
The Pacific Crest Trail and Blue Ridge Trail both run through the area, giving hikers direct access from camp. The PCT's Mexico-to-Canada route passes right through the Angeles National Forest here, offering day hiking opportunities along one of the country's most famous long-distance trails.
Wrightwood sits close by with restaurants and amenities, including a disc golf course at North Resort. The Angeles Crest Highway itself provides scenic driving through chaparral, oak thickets, and high desert landscapes as it winds through the San Gabriel Mountains.
