Eagle Campground sits in a mature stand of tall pines on the south shore of Eagle Lake, the third-largest natural lake in California. It's the closest campground to the marina and boat launch, making it the logical base camp for fishing the lake's famous Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout or launching watercraft onto 22,000 acres of open water.

Amenities
The Camp
Eagle Campground sprawls through an exceptional stand of pines and firs at 5,100 feet, where the Sierra Nevada meets the Cascades. The 54 sites break down into 30 reservable spots, 20 walk-in sites for those who prefer a bit more separation, and two small group sites. Two sites offer electric and water hookups β a rarity in national forest campgrounds.
Most sites come with paved parking spurs (site 50 gets gravel), plus the standard table and fire ring setup. The mature canopy provides genuine shade, not the token coverage you get at many lake campgrounds.
What to Know
The marina sits about a mile away, stocked with gas, propane, supplies, showers, and laundry facilities. An RV dump station operates 2.5 miles from camp with a fee. The 5.2-mile paved trail connects all five campgrounds and day-use areas in the Eagle Lake Recreation Area, so you can bike or walk between facilities without dealing with road traffic.
Eagle Lake allows all types of motorized watercraft with no 2-cycle restrictions β unusual for California's environmentally conscious lake management. The lake's claim to fame is the Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout, designated as a California Heritage Trout, but the massive surface area accommodates swimming, kayaking, sailing, and water skiing without the crowding issues of smaller lakes.
Nearby
The Osprey Overlook provides scenic views of the lake's southern end and can be reached by car or on foot. Lassen Volcanic National Park makes for a solid day trip from Eagle Lake Recreation Area. The Lassen National Forest offers extensive trail networks for hiking, mountain biking, and OHV riding, with winter snowmobile access when snow levels cooperate.
