The Camp

Seven sites arranged in a single loop under cedar and fir canopy, with the North Fork Cosumnes River running nearby. Sites 2-5 are tent-only, while sites 1, 6, and 7 can handle RVs. The forest provides good shade during the day, and the 5,100-foot elevation means cooler temperatures than the Central Valley below.

The campground operates on a dual system: reserve it as a group site for up to 42 people, or use individual sites on a first-come, first-served basis when no group reservation is active. Each individual site accommodates one vehicle and up to six people.

The River

The North Fork Cosumnes runs right through camp, offering wading, swimming, and fishing opportunities. Gold panning remains popular here β€” you'll likely see hobbyists working the river with pans and sluices, keeping alive the area's mining heritage. The water provides a natural cooling system during warm summer days.

What to Know

Group reservations get priority and must be made in advance. Individual campers should call ahead or have backup plans, since availability depends on whether groups have booked the site. The Mediterranean climate means warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters β€” plan accordingly for seasonal conditions.

Rock climbing areas and hiking trails are accessible from camp, and scenic drives to area overlooks provide options for day trips. Off-highway vehicle routes run nearby for those who brought ATVs or dirt bikes.
