The Camp

This is group camping with elbow room — a single reservable site that accommodates up to 25 people in Rock Creek Canyon between Mammoth Lakes and Bishop. The setting is primitive but not austere: you'll have flush toilets, potable water, and picnic tables, but the real amenities are the creek running nearby and the canyon walls rising on all sides. The wide-open layout gives large parties space to organize without feeling cramped against neighboring campsites.

At 8,100 feet elevation, the air is thin and nights get cold even in summer. The massive peaks visible to the west provide a dramatic backdrop for group photos and evening conversations around the fire.

What to Know

Reservations are required for the $93 nightly fee, and with only one group site available, booking ahead is essential. The secluded location in Rock Creek Canyon means you won't be dealing with RV generators or crowded campground loops — just your group and the canyon.

The elevation and canyon setting create a microclimate that can shift quickly. Pack layers and be prepared for temperature swings between day and night.

Nearby

Rock Creek Canyon offers fishing opportunities right from camp, plus hiking and photography options in the surrounding terrain. Wildlife viewing is part of the package — the canyon's steep walls and creek corridor create habitat that draws various species within view of camp.

The location between Mammoth Lakes and Bishop puts you within reach of Eastern Sierra trailheads and attractions, but far enough from both towns to feel properly removed from civilization.
