Rock Crossing Campground – Coconino National Forest

Rock Crossing Campground is a developed campground located within Coconino National Forest, Arizona, about 62 miles southeast of Flagstaff.

Situated at an elevation of 7,300 to 7,500 feet, the campground is nestled in a forested area near Blue Ridge Reservoir (also known as C.C. Cragin Reservoir). It offers picturesque scenery and a variety of recreational opportunities.

With 26 campsites, it accommodates tent campers and RVs up to 32 feet in length. Some sites can be reserved on Recreation.gov, while others are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Getting to Rock Crossing Campground

To reach Rock Crossing Campground, drive 55 miles south from Flagstaff on Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road) to Clints Well. From there, turn northeast (left) onto AZ-87 and continue for 4 miles to Forest Road 751. Turn southeast onto FR 751 and drive approximately 3 miles to the campground.

Rock Crossing Campground is a serene retreat ideal for those seeking outdoor adventure or a peaceful escape into nature. Located just 2 miles from Blue Ridge Reservoir, the campground provides access to fishing, boating, hiking, and wildlife viewing in a canyon-carved landscape surrounded by towering pine trees.

The campground features 26 campsites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. Drinking water is available during the camping season, which typically runs from early May through late September. Campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and motorhomes up to 32 feet, though no utility hookups are provided. A 14-day stay limit is enforced to ensure fair access for all visitors.

Popular activities in the area include trout fishing in the reservoir, which the Arizona Fish and Game Department stocks annually with rainbow trout. Visitors can also enjoy hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails or simply relax and observe the abundant wildlife.

The Mogollon Rim Ranger District manages the campground. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and pets must be leashed at all times. Visitors are also reminded to respect the natural environment by refraining from cutting or chopping live trees.

For larger groups, nearby campgrounds such as Elks, Moqui, and Long Valley offer additional options with group facilities.
