Trail Overview
Munds Wagon Trail begins at the east trailhead near the top of Bear Wallow Canyon and Schnebly Hill Road. Initially descending moderately, the trail meanders through shaded areas under Arizona cypress and circles the base of Merry-Go-Round Rock, offering stunning views down Bear Wallow Canyon and toward Munds Mountain.
The trail then resumes its descent, crossing Schnebly Hill Road twice, with vistas of Mitten Ridge to the north. Entering Bear Wallow Wash, hikers follow the drainage path before ascending onto a low ridge with panoramic views of the Mogollon Rim and nearby red rock formations.
The final stretch leads westward, crossing Schnebly Hill Road twice more on elevated terrain with striking views of Uptown Sedona and its iconic formations. The trail concludes after a brief descent and climb at the Huckaby Trailhead.
This trail, once a key cattle route, was upgraded for wagon travel in the early 1900s, preserving its historic significance. Waypoints are well-marked with basket cairns, and hikers can enjoy shorter segments by utilizing mid-trail access points.
